Rose Mei discovers Pringles

"Hey, Lillian. What's in that green can?"

"Can I please have some?"

"Thanks, Lillian. What is this?"

"WHOA! That's good!!!!"

She is actually waiving at Mommy in this pic.

"Come here, green can of yummy goodness!" "How does this thing come open?" "Can I get a hand here people? Do you know what is in this can?!"
"Please, please open this can, Daddy!"

"Oh, success! Thanks, Daddy."

Good morning, once again! I thought I'd give you all your daily blog fix before I head to bed. Today was a very relaxed day and I'll apologize in advance for not posting many photos. The fact is, there weren't that many photo opportunities and when there was a photo op, dummy me forgot to load the memory card in the camera. Oh, well. Life happens. :-)

Rose had a pretty good day today. She ate well. Actually, she always eats very well. She'll eat anything we give her at any time of the day. She definitely has a healthy appetite. As I said in the title, today she discovered Pringles. As she was sitting with me on the bed, Lillian decided to give her a nibble from a Pringles chip that she was eating. Boy did she like that. Lillian gave her a few more nibbles and then closed the can as she was finished. She laid the can towards the end of the bed and as soon as Rose saw it, she started moving towards it. This is the first time we've really seen her move from a sitting position on her own. Once she got ahold of the can, she studied it long and hard trying to figure out how to get it open. Finally, I opened it and gave her a few more nibbles. The girl likes her chips! She gets that from her new mommy (Michelle).

Since there was nothing on the schedule today, we (the Glasscocks and Sislers) decided to venture off of Shamian Island (Google it) and go into the city. We packed the babies in their carriers and we all marched into the city of Guangzhou. It was an amazing adventure and Lillian and Kari really enjoyed seeing a glimpse of Chinese life in a big city. If you don''t know, Guangzhou's population is between 13-15 million. It is a very big city. Along the streets, basically in the bottom level floors of the tall apartment buildings, there are open door stores selling everything and anything you can imagine. The food huts/stores are somewhat fascinating, yet somewhat scary, as well. We were headed towards this huge (and I mean HUGE) shopping plaza where there are 4 mall/shopping complexes on each of the corners of the plaza. I'll bet you we saw 50,000 people alone in that plaza area and that is only a drop in the bucket when you think of the overall population in the city. Along the way, a 10 year old girl started walking along side of us and smiling at the babies. She continued walking with us for 5-6 blocks and tried communicating with us, but she spoke no English. She just continued walking and smiling with us, just as if she was part of our group. In one block, she pointed to a food stand and indicated it was her family's. She then waived to us to follow her and we did. Once we got to the plaza, she took us into a small alley behind the stores where thousands of Chinese people were eating lunch next to 50-100 small food stands lined up along the alley. She led us to another food stand and indicated that it was her family's as well. She was very proud. It was an amazing adventure and we probably wouldn't have gotten to see that alley had we not crossed paths with her. It was a special moment on this trip.

This shopping plaza had 2 McDonald's restaurants, a Papa John's, a Pizza Hut, and a KFC. Everyone one of them were packed with people. We decided to have lunch at McDonald's (it was pretty good), but there was no place to sit inside, so we had to get it to go and search for a bench in one of the more modern malls. There are people everywhere in China. It was very nice once we crossed the bridge back onto Shamian Island with its lush gardens and amazing architecture (and no crowds).

The rest of the day was filled with rest, a little shopping, and dinner at Lucy's. As thankful as I am to have a western restaurant like Lucy's right next to our hotel, I have to tell you that I'm really getting tired of eating there almost every day. Boy could I use a Giovanni's pizza right now!

That's enough for today. Sorry I got so long winded. Enjoy the few pics of the day! Good night!

Kevin

  1. Michelle, I love the pink bow in Rose's hair! Ally still won't let me put bows in her hair. It sounds like you all are having an amazing trip.

  2. Hi all! I haven't been on the computer in a couple of days, (believe it or not). We have been repainting and redoing Grace's room so we've been busy. It is so good to see the photos on here and to hear of all your adventures. I'm sure the girls are loving it. What a wonderful experience for them at 7 to see where they came from and what life is like in China. I'm sure they'll remember it forever and will see what you did for them to become part of your "Forever Family". I'm so happy the girls are getting along well and that Rose is sleeping! I'm not surprised that Lillian is a big help! Can't wait to see what's next on your adventures!

    Love,
    Greta

  6. "Daily blog fix"---Love it!! Good description!!

Yes, Lucy's food didn't taste nearly as good near the end of the trip as it did at the beginning. Don't know if you saw my earlier post about Danny's Bagel. If they're still in business, give them a try. Good stuff!!

  7. LOVE the expressions on that precious face!! How hilarious!! Reagan is really missing Lillian and so excited (when she's not scared to death) about her coming back so they can swim together. BTW, I could just squeeze Rose to pieces in the pic where she's waving.

  8. Ahhh a junk food junkie in the making! Glad to hear she's a good eater! It sounds like quite an adventure today. I think I would have been glad to get back to the lush gardens and quiet! It's so hard to picture all of our fast food joints overseas!! Glad you all are having a good visit and that Rose is settling in...and waving at mommy even! How cute!
